The term “white-knuckle” seems to get thrown around carelessly quite often in the current film industry. If it’s ever said about Nightcrawler, however, it’s 100% accurate. While beautifully shot, this thriller constantly finds ways to make the viewer anxious (but in the best way). It’s an incredible ride and an excellent performance from Jake Gyllenhaal.
This is a movie that can be watched multiple times, and you’ll get a better sense of the main character, Louis Bloom, every time. I’m a big proponent of going into a good movie cold, so I’ll give you the quickest synopsis I can:
Louis Bloom records violent events late at night in Los Angeles and sells the footage to a local television news station.
