You all probably know by now that I’m a fan of games you can pick up and make progress with quickly. Counterspy, of course, is no different. It’s stealth done fun. It’s got a fun style with great comic book style graphics.
In this game you play as a spy in the Cold War era, trying desperately to prevent nuclear war. You don’t play as a member of the US or USSR forces, though. You’re a member of a neutral third party, whose only goal is to dismantle the nuclear programs of both countries.
As you navigate through the bases, you’ll learn what makes Counterspy stand out among its stealth brethren: it doesn’t confine itself to just either 2D or 3D space. You platform and do some combat in 2D, but behind cover you can change the game into a third person shooter as you attempt to take out enemy combatants.
It’s amazing just how silly the game can feel, considering the difficult topic it attempts to tackle. The gameplay is fun and satisfying, and you can pick it up with ease. Check out the launch trailer below to get a feel for the aesthetic and how the game plays!
