I can’t help but feel like we got started with some pretty serious content. Some initial recommendations include intense drama films Whiplash and Nightcrawler, heavy comic Watchmen, and we even talked about the news with NPR podcast Up First. I think this week, we need to dial things back and just remember to have fun. That’s why the theme of every recommendation in Issue #3 is “pure fun.” Let’s get into it.
We can start off with a few items from my younger days. First up, just in time for the weather getting warmer, Jimmy Buffett’s 1990 live album Feeding Frenzy. I can’t help but smile when I listen to this record. We also Arthur, the 1980 comedy with a great performance from Dudley Moore (and a killer theme song).
Up next, a couple more pieces that can be experienced in bite-sized pieces. Golf Story, the adventure video game/sports RPG is charming, fun and has some of the funniest dialog written for a game. And Canadian sitcom Letterkenny has so many jokes and quips an episode you’ll watch to re-watch each one.
Finally, our first comedy recommendation, Chris Porter’s Ugly and Angry. If you like good delivery, great jokes, Taco Bell, and don’t mind the crass-ness, this comedy special should be right up your alley.
